Tim Walz: Sacrificial Lamb Or The Next Senator From Minnesota?

Published

on

After the Somali daycare scandal, it’s becoming pretty obvious that Tim Walz does not believe he can win another statewide race. That’s why he’s announced he’s not seeking re-election.

It seemed to me that Walz was being sacrificed to take the fall for the massive fraud, but another theory has emerged. Some suspect he’s only stepping down to clear the field for Amy Klobuchar so she can “win,” then have her conveniently appoint Walz to the U.S. Senate. No election. No accountability. Just a backroom promotion.

When Chrissy Clark brought up this outrageous possibility on Newsline with me today, it was honestly the first I’d even heard of it, and it stopped me cold. I truly had not considered that Democrats might be so desperate and so out of touch that they would try to install someone this deeply unpopular.

That one’s on me, I guess. I gave them too much credit. I also assumed they felt more confident in their ability to actually win elections.

But the more you think about it, the more it makes sense. Why risk Walz on a ballot when you can just move him sideways into the Senate without asking voters at all?

If they pull this off, Minnesotans should absolutely revolt, politically speaking. This isn’t just cynical. It’s openly contemptuous of voters. It sends the message that elections are an inconvenience and that party insiders, not citizens, get to decide who represents the state.

And that level of disdain should offend every single person, regardless of party.
